This is week 8 after being laid off.
I'm starting to move past thinking about the layoff, which means the series is nearing its end. I know, it's a bit sad. I'll probably record until week 10, mostly because I just like the number. With my trip to Japan, which was an amazing vacation, receiving my severance, and now I have two clients plus helping friends host their websites, I feel like my priorities have shifted. I'm completely over my old company and ready for this exciting next phase.
For this next phase, I've got four projects on my plate. First, I'm handling my two clients. Second, I'm getting into website hosting. Third, there's my English-speaking platform, Bleh! And fourth, I will be sharing remote job listings. So the client work is pretty self-explanatory, and I've also shared on my Instagram during my May challenge.
As for website hosting, right now this is invite-only, so please don't ask me where to find it. Will or I'll reach out to you if we notice you're a good fit for our hosting services. We provide high-quality support, so if anything happens to your website, we'll be there to take care of it.
Then there's the third project. It's the English-speaking practice platform, Bleh! I hope some of my older audience people remember that. That's definitely in the works and will probably be out for a beta in June. I'll start with the initial wait list, which was from last year. I'm curious how many of these people still remember us. After a week or two of bug scrubbing, it'll open up to maybe email subscribers and then the third group before going public. There will be a few phases in between, maybe even a second wait list. I haven't planned out every detail yet, but it's coming soon, and I will put a link below if you're interested in signing up for the wait list from last year.
The fourth project is all about sharing remote job listings. I had a Threads post about this, I think, last year. Yeah, I believe it was last year. I collected some hybrid and remote jobs from companies with a legal entity or subsidiary here in Taiwan. I'm probably going to start with a simple spreadsheet of some sort and add some forms for people to be able to submit feedback. This won't be locked behind a "give me your email and I'll share this with you for free" thing. I don't like to do that for these type of things. I did that for the wait list just because I am providing something, but this one is just curating stuff. Especially, I sourced some of this from other people's posts or blogs. For me personally, I believe this kind of knowledge should be widespread and not locked behind a form. Of course, the more widespread it is, the easier it is to correct errors. If you notice anything that is wrong, please feel free to correct it by submitting feedback through the form. This way, we all can make this a win-win situation for everyone. And I really want this to be a long-term useful resource. The goal is whenever people are trying to look for remote or hybrid jobs in Taiwan, just come to the link, come to the website, come to the spreadsheet, and that's it. This will definitely be a community effort to keep things up to date. So it's not just about me. I'm only one single person. I can't do that much.
So those are the next phases coming up. And because of these projects, especially the client and hosting work, and even since my platform also needs to be on a server, I've developed a new interest in hosting. This isn't going to turn into a fifth project or anything, but I might talk about it sometimes on my Threads account or on my Instagram, especially if I find some amazing hosting providers. I think there is a pretty cool market out there that's very different from the major cloud giants we all know. Because we're individuals, we're smaller, we're not enterprise, so this is a pretty cool market to look at. If you're interested in that, definitely also feel free to reach out to me. I have a lot to share. I just don't always post on social media, so definitely feel free to chat about it directly.
But yeah, that's about it for this week. This is me, week eight after the layoff, signing off.
